About the Service

History

We are a Domiciliary Support Service based within the Western Bay Regional Partnership Board.

The local resources in our area are well known to the project. New services are communicated to us by the CMHT, voluntary groups, as well as by word of mouth from service users who already attend a particular group. All service users are encouraged to take advantage of the local amenities and due to the location of the projects there are many opportunities, from attendance at social clubs to voluntary work.

History:   The establishment was originally known as Gathen House and was set up as a residential home some 25 years ago. The current team has managed it for the past 20 years. Gathen House was deregistered in March 2003 and became a Supported Housing Project accommodating 8 Service Users.

It has since acquired a further property in George Street, Swansea providing support for a further 5 Service Users. It has since become G.H. Supported Living Limited, a name that better conveys the nature of the service provided.

  • Delivering ‘Out-comes’ based support, in the Service User’s home in a manner which is non-discriminatory, sensitive to the cultural needs of the Service User and respectful of their environment, traditions and where practicable their language, re: ’The Active Offer’

  • Providing a high-quality flexible, responsive and non – intrusive service that is tailored to the needs of the individual;

  • Ensuring that confidential information is protected at all times and only shared with others strictly in accordance with its policy on confidentiality.

  • Working in partnership with other agencies involved in support in order to ensure a seamless and cost-effective service.

Ethos and Philosophy

We believe that each Service User in our care has the fundamental right to:

  • be regarded as an individual and given our special attention;

  • be cared for by people who are capable of understanding their needs and competent to meet those needs;

  • be treated equally, and no less favourably than others;

  • receive respect and understanding regarding their cultural, religious and spiritual beliefs;

  • receive prompt attention in relation to all of their healthcare needs;

  • be informed of all important decisions that affect them, and to have a say;

  • be afforded privacy for themselves and their belongings;

  • have the opportunity to think independently and make their own choices; whilst maintaining their safety and well-being.

  • complain about anything they feel is unfair or unjust, and to have that complaint listened and responded to.
